‘Big Brother 12′ – Live Eviction #1, HoH #2 Recap

By

071610 1754 BigBrother11 Big Brother 12 Live Eviction #1, HoH #2 RecapTonight was the big night — the first eviction from the ‘Big Brother 12‘ house. Not only that, but the eagerly awaited reveal of the saboteur, too. Plus, there’s the Head of Household competition. Did I mention that this is all live?

If you combine ‘BB’ hamsters, Julie Chen, a live audience and a slew of things that have to get done, does it all go like planned? Well, kind of, sort of. The show finished up on time with the saboteur revealed, the eviction completed and a new Head of Household along with some other tidbits thrown in. But that doesn’t necessarily mean all went as planned by production.

Call me jaded. I realize I watch the live feeds and have more background than the average person solely watching the episodes on television. But even without my “inside the house” knowledge, I’ve gotten so I can tell by the editing what’s going to happen with the eviction. Whenever they put such a spin on it towards one person gaining favor with the house hamsters, you know that’s the person who’s going to get evicted! Must they be so blatant? C’mon, CBS. Mix it up, leave us confused until the actual vote!

So they work it up that Annie seems to be having success in her campaign to stay in the house. Actually, she makes good points. If they leave the “Blinded Me With Science” power couple (Rachel and Brendon) in the house, it will probably come back to bite them in the butt. (And, it surely does.) It would be better strategy on at least the Brigade’s part to get rid of Rachel and break up the pair. Hamsters aren’t known for their common sense.

Then came the big reveal. Shocker! Guess who’s the saboteur? Why, it’s Annie, the one most likely to be voted out even though the editing is trying to make things look otherwise. So, production staff … suppose you spent all kinds of thought and energy coming up with a twist which, in the first place, only lasts five weeks of a 10 week show? And then, your choice of participants blew it in the first week? What are you going to do now? We want to know!

When it came time for the speeches, there definitely was some vitriol in Annie’s words. But again, other than her personal jabs at Brendon, she made good points. The smarter move for the entire house would be to break up Rachel and Brendon. It could be a Jeff/Jordan situation all over again. Rachel’s speech was laughable — “I love you, great time, you’re all great, such fun, great, great.” She knew she had it in the bag. Sure enough, the vote was unanimous for Annie to go.

In her talk with Julie, she was more like the annoying Annie who talks a mile a minute and never shuts up. While she kept fairly civil, all she did was restate her entire campaign to stay in the house. She was shocked that Kathy was the choice of the fans for the saboteur. Her civility was thrown out the window once she watched the goodbye messages. Not surprisingly, Britney’s message was all catty and based mostly on her clothes. Ragan was the only one who mentioned that he thought she could be the saboteur. Most were sweet, including Brendon’s goodbye. But once she heard Rachel accusing her of trying to get between her and her man (what, of nine days?), it all hit the fan and Psycho Annie came out spewing “sloppy seconds” because Brendon was interested in her first. She claims she declined his romantic interest. Meow!

Next up was that which bites a Brigade in the butt — the Head of Household competition. It was the done-before “Majority Rules” without any surprising answers for me. Since they didn’t know Matt is such a genius (just ask him), they said they’d cheat off of Ragan’s paper. Well, Ragan is a college professor, so they would do alright. I wouldn’t want Andrew or Lane packing my parachute. Everyone knows you pack your own parachute!

As the field of hamsters dwindled, it got down to three girls — Monet, Britney and Rachel. Yep, we’re talking Rachel who could have been evicted if they were actually playing the game and thinking ahead! In the tie, Rachel proved her inability with chemistry, which is the science of her life outside of showmances with physicists. They had to guess how many gallons of caramel were used in the Have/Have Not comp. I sat at home and thought, “A lot, probably a couple hundred.” Britney decided 41, Rachel guessed 80 and Money went overboard with 725 gallons. It was 250. Rachel was closest without going over. But I would think a chemist would have a vague clue and be somewhat near the figure. Rachel is the new Head of Household. Annie is probably thrilled with it all. Take that, hamsters!

Supposedly, beside hiding noise-making devices throughout the house, Annie did one more act of sabotage before she left the house. Time will tell. Since the saboteur Annie lied in the most recent message to the house — “I’ve escaped eviction this week.” — I presume the “lifelong friends” was probably a lie as well. The best way to sabotage the game is to mess with their little hamster minds.

What do you think they’ll do in lieu of a twist? Recruit a second saboteur? Choose an “America’s Player Saboteur”? You know they have to have a twist on the show or it’s just not ‘Big Brother.’
